CANDLES
Candles are the oldest means of lighting, next to the oil lamp and the grease torch.
In Europe, the Etruscans in present-day Tuscany already used candles before the Romans.
But there are indications that the Egyptians already used some kind of candles long before that time.
In Roman times, the candle broke through completely. They were made from animal fats
and twisted rus fibers (Juncaceae) slivers. In the better circles, the more expensive beeswax was used.
